Local Club

Local cricket has been played for more than a century at the ground, but the local cricket club was until 2006 under the wing of Northumberland County Cricket Club.

After the two year campaign to save the Jesmond Ground from closure, a separate local Newcastle Cricket Club was created and held its first AGM in 2006.

Three senior teams play in the North East Premier League; a fourth plays in the Northumberland and Tynemouth League. All teams have a great team spirit that recognises the privilege they hold in playing at a ground with vast heritage.

Women’s chance to shine
In 2012 a women’s development squad was added, playing 8-a-side cricket. Two of the players played in the senior teams during the season – a historic first for the Jesmond Ground.

Junior Development
The Junior WASPS have four teams and provide coaching for boys and girls aged 7 to 17. Our Junior cricketing system allows kids to challenge themselves, make new friends and most importantly play cricket!
