Festival tribute to Kirby

beer fest 09 kirby mains edit
The 2014 Real Ale & Cider Festival is honouring the memory of one of its most loyal visitors.

The favourite tipple of R.K. Mains – Thornbridge Jaipur – has been given his name as an “honorary cask sponsor”. And the huge Bar created in the Pavilion Suite for the five-day Festival will also have the “Kirby Arms” banner specially created by CAMRA to mark his support for the Campaign for Real Ale since it was founded.

Kirby passed away earlier this year – and the Festival will be a chance for his many friends in the club and amongst CAMRA members to raise a glass (or three) to a great friend and remarkable character.

More festival details here.

And this is the Club’s tribute to the man who was involved since he was a schoolboy. Kirby launched the very first Newcastle Cricket Club Real Ale & Cider festival in 2009 – he’s pictured above putting the tankard he was presented with to good use!
