Thanks to Norwegian volunteers

They sailed in a longboat on the River Tyne – but when they reached the Jesmond Ground, our Norwegian invaders painted rather than pillaged!

More than a dozen volunteers, joined by their hosts from Jesmond Methodist Church, offered their services to tackle improvements. Their group of Christians were on a visit to mark the Olympic summer – and they had so much energy that they managed their first experiences of cricket as well as painting fences, staining wood and adding a white safety line around the terrace.

As thanks, they were presented with a cap belonging to the Vikings cricket team, by Club Co-Chair Nick Humble. The day was nicknamed Cricket Styrke – the Norwegain version of our annual Cricketforce volunteer day.
