Happy New Year! We were delighted that the building work was completed in time for all our festive visitors to have the thrill of entering through the friendly new entrance. This is much more accessible, offering a ramp into the ground, automatic doors into the Pavilion, and an inviting view of the Jesmond Ground. New accessible toilet facilities are also provided, and the changes have opened up space for eight cycle racks.
We’re very grateful to all the supporters of the scheme including major funders SITA Trust, the local ward committee for South Jesmond, the Royal Grammar School and much-appreciated support from North Jesmond ward committee, local community organisations, charities and trust funds. Full list provided here.
Already the new facilities have prompted a range of visits to discuss new possibilities for use of the function room in the Thomson Pavilion Suite and also activities on the Jesmond Ground. Local MP Nick Brown paid a visit to look at the works and hold a surgery (picture below).
The final touches to the new entrance will be added over January, leading up to an official opening ahead of the new cricket season. Refurbishment of the function room is now the next improvement underway. We’re grateful to Burridges the construction firm and Napper Architects for all their commitment to getting the project complete ready for Christmas.
