Girls & Women’s Awards 2015: best season yet!

DSCF7152The Girls & Women Presentation Night celebrated the best season yet since the squad was formed three years ago. The team finished in the top half of the table, in 7th, and Team Manager Gill Woodley praised the fantastic performances which meant the team could have been even higher.

Gill said: “Unfortunately, not everyone can receive an award even though you all deserve one.”

The awards announcements were:

  • Best Batter: Laura Pearson
  • Laura had a top score of 55 NO, a season’s average of 55.6 and a strike rate of 98.3

  • Best Bowler: Christine Jackson
  • Two maidens, nine wickets with an average of 25

  • Most Improved Player – Loraine McLaughlin
  • She played in every game often doing the very important job of holding up an end protecting the other batter who was scoring runs. Even an umpire commented that she had improved massively.

  • Most Memorable Moment: the award must go to the person who bowled the only fivefer of the season in her very first game against Corbridge – Emma Gowling
  • rachel n gill copyThe team also gave best wishes to Rachel Haxon who was due to depart to New Zealand a few days later – a trip throughout the UK winter/NZ cricket season which has arisen as a result of meeting Club Coach and Overseas Player Ben Cant last season.
