Cup win dedicated to Doc
Many congratulations to our Thirds team which had a Super-Sunday – in the morning winning the Banks Cup, then in the afternoon winning their North East Premier League match.
Team captain Mark Pearce dedicated the Cup victory to Alan Docherty, much-missed veteran player who was an inspiration, and Player of the Year in 2011.
Man of the Match was Ross Sinclair.
The 3rd XI won the NEPL Banks Cup in resounding fashion, thrashing the league champions South Northumberland by 9 wickets. South North batted first and were restricted to 106 for 8 by some accurate bowling. Gregor Pearce was outstanding with his leg spin taking 2 for 9 from his 4 overs.
In reply we were never in trouble as the first wicket was only lost with the scores level. Man of the match Ross Sinclair was out for a superb 72 and was ably supported by Tom Dias (23no) in the opening stand.
To complete an excellent day the 3rds then went on to beat Sunderland in the North East Premier League match. Tom Dias (63), Toby Howd (34) and Adam Senior (37) all batted well in a total of 180.
Adam Senior then swung the ball brilliantly to take 4 for 24 and Gregor Pearce cleaned up the tail with 4 for 47 as Sunderland were dismissed for 163.
