Aiming high for 2014 season

DSCF9426After a record-beating season in 2013, Newcastle’s Club Captain Jacques du Toit and his teams are training hard ready to deliver another season of entertaining cricket this summer.

Easter Saturday – 19 April – sees an opener with the Firsts hosting Sunderland. “We ruffled a few feathers last season,” he says with relish: “There are no bad sides in the League and all teams are under pressure – but that’s a good thing.”

JDT bats 1Jacques was the highest scorer in the North East Premier League in 2013, and also one of the top bowlers. He is also now a qualified coach, working with Newcastle University as well as Newcastle CC. “We’ve been working on skills development over the winter, and some of our players are getting experience in Australia again which is great.”

“I’m delighted to have come to Newcastle, it’s a very welcoming club in a wonderful ground.”

Jacque is pictured talking to reporters from Cricket North East and Jesmond Local about the plans for the coming season.
